Understanding The X/Externalities. If you really want to get the most out of your buying dollar all you have to do is buy from your neighbor's local independent businesses in your commUnity instead of “race to the bottom”, "take the money and run", usually subsidized low paying, chain stores.
People who buy from the chain stores or chain businesses are probably unaware of the actual price they pay otherwise, it’s likely, they would never enter a chain stores doors.
The chain businesses exist, nearly entirely; because most consumers are conditioned to buying based only on the “sticker price” without any awareness the externalities.
Externalitiesare numerous and they all combine to make up the actual cost or price a consumer really pays when doing business with a chain business, which is almost always considerable more than that which is indicated on the “price sticker”.
